Who: The 2018 RPP Hobby Lakeport Twilight Criterium presented by Chevron & PowerMarket is a closed course downtown competitive bicycle race organized by local competitive bicycle racing team Main Street Elite Cycling Team headquartered in Lakeport.
What: A downtown “criterium” bicycle race, “crit” for short, that’s what! A crit is a very fast and exciting Formula 1 /NASCAR-style bicycle race on closed downtown city streets at sunset! Spectator interaction is a must!
Where: Museum Park, downtown Lakeport 3rd & Main Streets! The race course starts mid block on Main Street at museum park and proceeds south on Main, then turns right on Armstrong, right again on Forbes uphill to the steeple (great viewing spot to cheer the riders on and see some amazing athletic performance and some fails!) The course then does a high speed descent on Forbes street past the front of the courthouse and into a very fast 90 degree right hand turn onto 4th Street and then another quick right hand turn back onto Main Street and passed the start/finish line again.
When: Saturday June 30, 2018! The beginner & amateur races begin at 11AM and the classes progressively get faster and more aggressive as the skill levels build. Although exciting racing action starts at 11AM, we suggest making your way downtown to Main Street around 3PM to watch the kids, which will be followed by the most advanced and pro categories; climaxing with the Pro women’s race start at 6PM and the Pro Men Starting at 8PM!
Why: To provide an exciting form of sports entertainment to downtown Lakeport that is free for the community and raises funds for Main Street Elite Cycling Teams racing operations, which are largely geared to getting local teens into competitive cycling.
More: This is NOT the Konocti Challenge, the annual recreational ride around the lake and throughout Lake County. The Lakeport Twilight Criterium is a nationally-sanctioned competitive professional cycling race and will draw competitive cycling athletes from across the west coast and possibly the US, all to put on an amazing show for you!
Crits are an up close and exciting spectator experience. Spectators are half of the show so we need you and all your friends and family to come downtown, especially in the afternoon into the evening. Grab a free cowbell, buy a beer or two at the beer garden, line the streets and make some noise! Trust us this is the most exciting bike race you have never heard of and we are exciting to bring it to Lakeport for the second time!
FOR THE KIDS: At 3:30PM, the Lake County Deputy Sheriff’s Association will sponsor and host a race for local kids, which is completely FREE and will include an official race number bib, ice cream/popsicles after the race, really nice race medals, and an actual podium presentation for the kids that win their classes that will include a photo and a cash prize!
